Nottingham Forest have opened talks to sign Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa, with John Victor unlikely to play again this season following knee surgery.
According to NY Times, discussions are focused on adding competition and cover for Matz Sels, who has recorded successive Premier League clean sheets against Arsenal and Brentford.
Forest previously explored a move for the former Olympiacos keeper in summer 2023 while assessing a permanent return for Dean Henderson after his loan.
Sa, 33, has made 148 Premier League appearances since arriving from Olympiacos in 2021, spending most of that time as first choice.
He has recently reclaimed his place in Rob Edwards’ side after a spell behind Sam Johnstone, so Wolves are reluctant to sanction a mid-season sale.
There is acceptance he is unlikely to stay next year, when Wolves appear almost certain to be in the Championship, so a bid that might not be available in the summer would be considered. Any move would hinge on Edwards being satisfied with the replacement, whether Johnstone or a new signing.
John Victor damaged his knee against Aston Villa last month and has undergone surgery. It is considered unlikely he will return this season.
Forest have Angus Gunn in reserve but remain keen to recruit as they attempt to move clear of the Premier League relegation zone and advance in the Europa League. Sean Dyche’s side host Ferencvaros at the City Ground on Thursday, then face Crystal Palace in the Premier League three days later.
