Goalkeeper John Victor is expected to miss the rest of Nottingham Forest’s season after knee surgery, following the 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa earlier this month. The development comes as the Reds renew interest in Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa before next week’s transfer deadline, and they are said to be in talks over the 33-year-old.
According to the BBC, Sa would not be allowed to leave Molineux unless a replacement arrives.
John was first-choice for a spell. In his absence, Matz Sels has reclaimed the No.1 shirt and recorded successive Premier League clean sheets. Angus Gunn has been back-up and earlier this term the Scotland international expressed a wish to explore a January move for regular minutes.
Forest have tracked Sa before, including prior to Sels’ arrival in the winter of 2024. The Portuguese is familiar to the hierarchy, having moved from fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned club Olympiacos to Wolves in 2021.
Sa is not the only Wolves player on Forest’s list. They also admire forward Jorgen Strand Larsen. Lucca signed last week, and while a bid has gone in for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, Strand Larsen remains an option of interest.
Sa has made 12 appearances for Wolves so far this season. Rob Edwards’ side are rock-bottom of the Premier League with eight points, and Forest are due to host them at the City Ground on February 11.
Head coach Sean Dyche is scheduled to face the media later today, Wednesday, before Thursday’s Europa League tie against Ferencvaros, with an eight pm kick-off at the City Ground. The Reds trained at the Nigel Doughty Academy this morning, where full-back Nicolo Savona was a notable absentee from the open session.
