Nottingham Forest are said to have stepped up their pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jack Hinshelwood ahead of the January window. Head coach Sean Dyche is reportedly a long-term admirer of the 20-year-old.

TEAMtalk reports that Brighton had previously indicated the England Under-21 midfielder was not available for transfer and that Forest have again reached out in recent days to see if that stance has shifted. The south coast club are still viewed as unlikely to sell even amid firm interest.

It remains to be seen whether Forest test the Seagulls’ resolve when the window opens. Midfield is expected to be a focus as plans for next month take shape. They were first linked with Hinshelwood last month.

Numbers are stretched in the middle. Ibrahim Sangare has joined Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations, and captain Ryan Yates faces a spell out with a hamstring issue.

Nicolas Dominguez missed Sunday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur. His problem is not thought to be serious and he could return against Fulham next Monday.

Elliot Anderson remains important but has attracted plenty of admirers. Forest are unlikely to sanction a January exit, though significant bids in the summer could alter that stance.
