Nottingham Forest are pursuing targeted additions as Oliver Glasner reshapes a talented squad following last season’s relegation fight. The new head coach wants a small number of signings to push up the Premier League table.
According to Nottingham Post, quality over quantity guides the window and no overhaul is needed, even after Elliot Anderson joined Manchester City. Forest are working in Portugal during pre-season.
Midfielder Xaver Schlager is the first arrival, the Austrian joining on a free after leaving RB Leipzig and reuniting with Glasner from Wolfsburg. Forest also admire Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall, 20, who is said to have asked to move amid limited minutes under Roberto De Zerbi. After De Zerbi’s March appointment, he made one start and played 112 minutes late in the season.
With Glasner favouring a back three, a centre-back is a priority. Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande has been earmarked for the right side alongside Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo, and a deal is said to be close. It could be completed in time for Friday’s friendly against Sporting, 7.45pm kick-off.
Forest also want a right-back and have tested Feyenoord’s resolve for Givairo Read, 20. Their bids are short of the Dutch club’s £21m valuation.
A striker is on the list, tall, physical, quick and mobile. Chelsea’s Liam Delap is a possible option, priced at £35-40m and also admired by Everton and Leeds United.
Several departures are expected before the deadline, with no European football reducing the need for a large squad. Loans for Tyler Bindon and Zach Abbott are possible, while Nicolo Savona and Morato have been linked with exits. Forest intend to keep key players and build on strong foundations.
