There's no bigger shop window than a World Cup. With the 2026 tournament underway, we've profiled five players representing their countries whose futures are up in the air.

Darwin Nunez - Uruguay

Just a year on from a £45m transfer to the Saudi Pro League,Darwin Nunez could be set to become one of the most intriguing free agents on the market. The Uruguayan is in talks with Al-Hilal to terminate his contract with the club, having been unceremoniously snubbed last season.

Karim Benzema's arrival from Al-Ittihad in the January window saw Nunez axed from the Saudi Pro League squad, due to foreign player registration rules. As a result, the 26-year-old is keen to quit with negotiations ongoing over an exit.

A host ofPremier League clubs have been linked with Nunez, who scored 40 goals in 143 games for Liverpool. His former club are among those tentatively linked, as the Reds seek cover for the injured Hugo Ekitike.

Nicolas Jackson - Senegal

Nicolas Jackson and his team are assessing their options after Bayern Munich opted against turning his loan move into a permanent deal.

The Senegal striker scored 11 goals in 34 games as the German side won a domestic double, though the £70m fee was deemed too high for a player whose role largely consisted of being a support act to Harry Kane.

A fresh start atChelsea is an option for the 24-year-old, with the Blues under new management in Xabi Alonso. However, a new challenge looks the probable outcome and a strong tournament for the stripped AFCON winners could raise interest.

Marcus Rashford - England

Marcus Rashford's hopes of a permanent move to Barcelona look to be fading, with the Spanish side's acquisition of England teammate Anthony Gordon complicating that deal.

Rashford will battle with Gordon for a place in Thomas Tuchel's team this summer, where he'll hope to prove he can be an option for one of Europe's top teams. Alongside Premier League interest, Bayern Munich have been linked.

Mohamed Amoura - Algeria

Theleading scorer in Africa's qualification phase. Mohamed Amoura scored 10 goals in seven starts to fire Algeria to the 2026 tournament. The 26-year-old finished ahead of Mohamed Salah for goals in World Cup qualification, and looks set to be on the move this summer.

He was part of the Wolfsburg team that suffered a shock relegation from the Bundesliga, despite his best efforts. After 18 goals and 12 assists over the last two Bundesliga campaigns, Amoura could be a smart option for sides in search of firepower.

Azzedine Ounahi - Morocco

Another talent who was part of a relegated team this season, Azzedine Ounahi dropped in the Segunda Division with Girona.

The Moroccan midfielder was one of the breakout players of the 2022 tournament as Morocco reached the semi-finals, a feat which earned him a move to Marseille.

Things never quite worked out for the 26-year-old in Marseille, but he's young and talented enough to earn another good move. This summer is the perfect platform to showcase that.
