Official: Atlético Madrid star undergoes successful surgery | OneFootball

A member of the summer recruitment drive at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid has this week undergone a surgical procedure under the club’s supervision.

The player in question? Álex Baena.

Attacking midfielder/winger Baena was for his part one of a number of high-profile arrivals in Diego Simeone’s squad this summer.

Fresh off another starring season on the books of Villarreal, the Spanish international was snapped up by Atlético in a big-money transfer back in July.

Baena has since gone on to feature in just one of his new club’s three La Liga fixtures thus far, owing to an injury suffered last month.

And as alluded to above, this week, the 24-year-old’s difficult start to life in Atléti colours has continued.

As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the Rojiblancos:

‘Álex Baena underwent successful surgery for acute appendicitis this Tuesday, September 2nd. The laparoscopic surgery was completely normal, and the player is doing well. However, he will remain hospitalized for the next few hours awaiting discharge. His progress is pending before he can return to training.’
