Fiorentina made it official this evening that they have locked David De Gea down to a new contract until June 2028, reportedly doubling his salary.
The veteran had been targeted by AS Monaco and Bayern Munich, but having seen his career revitalised in Florence, he decided to put down roots.

The 34-year-old had been out of action for a whole year after his contract with Manchester United was allowed to run down, as he rejected proposals that did not interest him.

Fiorentina gave De Gea the opportunity to show what he is still capable of with a series of great saves during his 42 competitive appearances this season, keeping 11 clean sheets.
Although his contract did have an option to extend until June 2026, Fiorentina wanted to reward him for his performances with an improved deal until June 2028.
According to Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, this is worth €2.7m per season plus bonuses, effectively doubling his previous salary.
It is at least some stability for the club, as coach Raffaele Palladino had his resignation accepted this morning.
