An official club statement reads, “Manchester United have begun work on a significant expansion of rail seating at Old Trafford, with 6,000 additional safe standing seats being installed in Tier 2 of the Stretford End.”

“The project will double the current provision of rail seats inside the stadium, making Old Trafford one of the Premier League’s leading venues for safe standing.”

“The first phase of seats will be in place for the upcoming fixture against Sunderland. However, the section will remain licensed as seated for that game until the installation is completed and formally approved by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA).”

United insist that they expect the work to be finalised by the end of October.

However, formal approval from the SGSA could follow later.

The statement concludes by pointing out, “This latest development reflects the club’s ongoing investment in enhancing the matchday experience, with safe standing widely recognised for boosting atmosphere while also improving safety.”

Meanwhile, United will be looking to make it back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since May 2024, when they take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

United eyeing victory over Brentford

The Red Devils beat Chelsea last weekend, relieving some pressure off the shoulders of Ruben Amorim and his players.

Prior to the game, there was a lot of speculation about Amorim’s future at United, although it was made perfectly clear that he still retained the support of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the football leadership group.

After the final whistle vs. Chelsea, Amorim stressed the importance of building momentum and embarking on a run of positive performances and results.

A victory over the Bees would go a long way towards realising this objective. Kick-off is at 12:30 pm.
