Manchester United have allowed yet another talented youngster to go out on loan during this winter window.
Transfer deadline day saw Jacob Devaney, James Scanlon, Ethan Wheatley and Gabriele Biancheri all secure senior loan moves.
One youngster who has not had much playing time so far this season is Sekou Kone.
The Malian youth international was signed by United in the summer of 2024 and originally played at academy level.
He took some time to settle but soon began to show glimpses of his talent. Kone also impressed during brief cameos in the club’s post-season tour of Asia.
Kone did not get any first-team opportunities during the pre-season tour of the United States and suffered a fractured eye socket in August while playing for the academy.
It was reported by The Peoples Person that after returning from injury, Kone spent last month on trial at FC Lausanne Sport and was close to securing a loan move.
United’s official website has subsequently reported that, “Manchester United’s Sekou Kone has joined Lausanne-Sport on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.”
They also add that, “the exciting young midfielder will get a taste of first-team football in the Swiss Super League.”
Lausanne are currently seventh in the Swiss League and are pushing to secure European qualification for next season.
Kone will also join up with fellow United youngster Enzo Kana-Biyik, who is spending the season on loan with the Swiss team.
Lausanne also commented on the move on their official website, stating, “FC Lausanne-Sport is delighted to announce the loan signing of Malian defensive midfielder Sékou Koné from Manchester United until the end of the 2025-2026 season.”
They also commented on his training spell with the club in January, asserting, “Sékou Koné quickly impressed the Lausanne staff. His ball-winning abilities, stamina, and technical skill led the club to sign the defensive midfielder on loan until the end of the season.”
Kone could make his debut this Sunday against St Gallen in the league.
