Ahead of a monster match against FC St. Pauli this weekend, FC Augsburg confirmed two outgoing transactions on Friday. French striker Steve Mounie and German attacking midfielder Yusuf Kabadayi are both headed to Turkey on loan for the season. Three games into the start of competitive play, the Bavarian-Swabian Bundesliga outfit has reduced its squad size to 29 professionals.
Mounie actually emerged strong from Augsburg training camp and scored what would prove the game-winning goal in Augsburg’s opening round Pokal win against Hallescher FC. Head coach Sandro Wagner nevertheless had little need for the second-year FCA professional and the German club had been shopping the Benin international for a French loan out.
After a loan deal with Angers collapsed, Mounie will head to Alanyaspor for the year. Transfermarkt.de reports that Augsburg have secured a €100,000 loan fee as part of the deal. No German footballing media sources make mention of a potential purchase option for the still €2m-valued striker.
Kabadayi – a former Bayern Munich academy man – signed with Augsburg for €1m last summer, yet made only five substitute appearances in the German top flight last year. The Germany U20 international did net his maiden Bundesliga goal in his first appearance off the bench in September 2024.
Kabadayi found himself hindered by a serious knee injury and an unfortunate involvement in a criminal investigation last year. The 21-year-old was ultimately not charged and is once again fit enough to play.
Turkish Süper Lig club Gaziantep announced that they had secured a purchase option for Kabadayi as part of the deal. Kabadayi’s Bundesliga club indicated that they would still like to have the Munich native back at some point.
“After his injury layoff, Yusuf now has the opportunity to gain playing experience in the Turkish Süper Lig through his loan to Gaziantep FK,” FCA sporting director Benni Weber noted in a club statement. “We wish him a successful and, above all, injury-free season in Turkey.”
“Steve wanted to play regularly in order to achieve his national team goals,” Weber said of Mounie’s loan. “We couldn’t give him that guarantee at FCA. With the move to Turkey, we have found a good solution for everyone involved and wish him every success.“
