By Phil Foden’s lofty standards, the 24/25 season was a disappointing one for the England international. Foden battled niggling injuries and mental fatigue throughout last season. The Manchester City midfielder has previously spoken of the mental battle he faced last season. Following the completion of the 24/25 season, Foden did get the opportunity to have a much-needed break from football.
Following his short break, Foden has travelled with his Manchester City teammates for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. Based on footage shared from Manchester City’s training sessions in Miami, there appears to be a spring in the step of Foden once again.
Throughout this week, Manchester City have shared a host of videos from their Club World Cup training camp in Boca Raton, Florida. Based on the footage that has emerged from City’s training camp there is a good vibe to Manchester City’s training so far in the United States. Pep Guardiola’s side is building up to their opening Group G fixture of the FIFA Club World Cup against Wydad AC. But what has stood out is that Phil Foden looks to have benefited from a break. He looks sharp in training and his finishing has stood out.
The two clips below emphasise that there seems to be a crispness to Foden’s play and especially his finishing. After having such a difficult 24/25 season it is also good to see Foden smiling again and enjoying his work.
Manchester City will be hoping that Phil Foden can return to his best for the 25/26 season. Alongside Manchester City’s new signings, Foden figures to be a vitally important player for Pep Guardiola’s side. He is entering the prime years of his career and his disappointing 24/25 season may be looked back upon as a moment that spurred Foden on to greater heights if he can return to his best this season. The FIFA Club World Cup could be the ideal setting for Foden to lay the groundwork for what lies ahead next season. He does look sharp in training, and that’s a positive sign.
First and foremost, the hope is that Phil Foden is over the niggling injury issues he dealt with last season. It is further hoped that a brief break from the game helped Foden get over the mental fatigue he suffered during the 24/25 season. The early signs from Manchester City’s training camp are positive in regards to Foden’s progress. He looks sharp and that form should carry into Manchester City’s opening FIFA Club World Cup fixture against Wydad AC.
