With the recent news of Andy Robertson’s departure from the club at the end of the season, it is time to look back at the Scotsman’s best moments in a Liverpool shirt that made him a fan favourite.
The left-back joined the Reds from Hull in 2017 for a fee of £8 million. In that time, he has accumulated a total of 373 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 69 assists.
During his tenure at the club, Robertson also racked up the second-most assists ever recorded by a defender in the Premier League. The full-back’s current tally is 60, only being beaten by former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is on 64.
It is not just his footballing ability that made him popular within the fanbase; his energy on and off the pitch, his strong, relatable personality and his constant reliability are all going to be massively missed on Merseyside.
It is also clear to see how popular Robertson is within the squad. Since his announcement, there has been a flood of responses by current and former Liverpool players, praising him for the player and person he is.
A player that when he was signed by Jurgen Klopp, no one expected much from, but that narrative fits Robertson so well; every time he is underestimated, the left-back proves everyone wrong.
Andrew Robertson Signs For Liverpool! | Breaking News
After nine seasons at Anfield, it is time to reminisce on his best moments and wave farewell to a great player and a fantastic character.
1) That press against Manchester City (14th January 2018)
The moment where Robertson introduced the type of player he is to the Liverpool fans, a 94-yard press from the left-hand side all the way to the opposite flank, to the naked eye, it may not seem that important, but it demonstrated to us all what we can expect from Robertson.
It was clear from that moment on that Robertson’s strengths lie within his work rate and his persistent attitude. In a game where the Reds came out on top with a 4-3 victory, it was the perfect introduction from the Scotsman in his debut season.
2) Derby Day Delight (24th April 2022)
At the back end of the 21/22 season, Liverpool was gunning on all fronts, looking to secure a quadruple. With the Premier League entering its final stages of the season, Liverpool hosted Everton in a must-win game to continue the pursuit of Manchester City.
With the match hanging in the balance after the 60-minute mark, the Reds needed a hero to step up, and that man was the flying Scotsman.
A ball lofted to the back post, Robbo headed it home in front of the Kop to give the Reds a much-needed lead. A massive goal in the context of that season, Liverpool went on to win that game 2-0, a scoreline that could have been very different if it were not for that crucial header.
3) Aston Villa Comeback (2nd November 2019)
Liverpool’s win away at Villa Park was a vital moment in the season that eventually ended the 30-year wait for the Premier League. 1-0 down entering the 87th, it was starting to look like a fightback was not on the cards.
Sadio Mane took the corner, and it was that man once again at the back post to draw the Reds level. His celebration in front of the travelling Reds will forever be iconic, spearheading the eventual comeback in a must-win game.
At that moment in time, the gap at the top was only six points, with Manchester City winning their game; you can definitely say that the header changed the trajectory of the title-winning season.
4) Record Breaker (26th December 2022)
Boxing Day of the 22/23 season, Jurgen Klopp’s side travelled to Aston Villa, a game that on paper did not contain much importance, but provided a moment that Robertson will never forget.
His assist on the day to Salah broke Leighton Baines’ record of the most Premier League assists by a defender. A testament to how good the left-back is going forward, and how vital he was to that system that provided so much success.
His title was eventually passed over to Trent Alexander-Arnold, but with seven games left to play in this current season and Real Madrid right back only four ahead, there is still an outside chance Robbo reclaims his throne.

5) A Liverpool Legend
Robertson is ending his time on Merseyside as one of the best full-backs to ever play for the Reds. His career at Liverpool will always be remembered; the left-back has been an integral part of all the recent silverware.
Two Premier Leagues, one Champions League, two League Cups, one Club World Cup and an FA Cup, not bad for someone who, fourteen years ago, was tweeting about needing a job.
The vice-captain will be leaving a massive hole within the dressing room, his character, work rate, attitude and overall professionalism is something that you want in every player.
No doubt it is going to be an emotional goodbye from the player and fans, a brilliant servant who no doubt was a perfect match for Liverpool.
