Sergio Conceicao is not a typical short-hire manager, but AC Milan are looking likely to make this his truth, after a disappointing few months.
This season has not been good enough, put blankly. Paulo Fonseca’s appointment was a mistake, and Conceicao has failed to really turn the tide since joining in January. Nevertheless, his predecessor’s mistakes have made his own future look bleak.
Of course, the Portuguese has made his own mistakes since winning the Supercoppa Italiana in his first games. However, there is certainly a question about the timing of his appointment and the belief in his ability to shift a team so quickly.
Nevertheless, it seems increasingly likely that his time is up, and Franco Ordine commented on the situation when speaking to Pressing, via Milan News.
“Does AC Milan still have a chance to go in the Champions League? But it goes. If they do well in the semi-final return leg, they’ll play in the Coppa Italia final. Milan woke up too late. We don’t think one game, the one in Udine, will be enough to change things.
“Does Conceiçao have any chance of staying at AC Milan? No. Now he meets two professors of the three-man defence, like Gian Piero Gasperini and Simone Inzaghi. If he passes these two tests, then they can say ‘sorry we’re late, we woke up late’.”
After the win in Udine, there is certainly a ‘What If?’-esque feeling, but it seems unlikely that this will be answered.
