Following a positive January transfer window, Liverpool have kicked on in the second half of the season and The Reds are keen to keep on climbing the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
Everton are up next and Liverpool boss Taylor says that the aim is to win all of the games in the end of season run-in.
“It’s a good game for us,” Taylor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “We feel like we are in a better place but I’m pretty sure Everton will feel the same. Not too long ago, we were pretty close in the league but a couple of wins have really catapulted them up the table into a safe position.
“We are in a better position than what we were in and we really want to finish the season on a bit of a high. We know that in these four remaining games, our intention is to go out and win all four of them.”
Liverpool have been waiting seven years for a Merseyside derby victory in the Barclays Women’s Super League but Taylor hopes that his side can repeat their 2-1 Adobe Women’s FA Cup success over Everton from a month ago.
He said “People will always talk about the form, previous form from years ago and until we put that right in a league game, it’ll still be ‘the form’s not been very good – yes, you’ve won [in the FA Cup] but you’ve still lost more than you’ve won’.
“Sometimes, it can happen like that. Everyone who was involved in those games want the outcome to be that the red of the city are the ones that are smiling. We felt that in the last game. Trying to do it again in this game, we know it will be tough but I think we have a good opportunity to do that.
“I like the way the team is shaping up, I feel that the squad is in a really good place. It’s possibly one of the strongest squads that we’ve had to choose from so far this season.”
Everton remain under the interim management of Scott Phelan. Taylor says that Phelan has probably taken a simple but effective approach to his temporary role.
He said “When you get into that role between games and before an international break or just after one, your time is at a premium. You’ve got to get the players onboard with your ideas and what you want to do, keep it really simple and look at the strengths that you have in the team; focus on those and try and get the best from them.
“It feels quite simple what Scott has done. I’d imagine that a large part of that has been ‘keep it simple and do what you do well’, be a bit more difficult to beat and bring the fun element back to the game, try to focus on the positives.”
Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Everton kicks-off at 12pm on Saturday afternoon.
