Palmeiras have faced 12 of the 48 nations at this World Cup, posting 15 wins, two draws and seven defeats. According to Globo.com, standout results include victories over world champions Uruguay and Argentina. Most meetings came between the 1950s and 1980s, when these friendlies were common.

Their first game against a national team was in 1922, a 4-2 win over Paraguay, while the club were still Palestra Itália.

They met Argentina in 1925, losing 3-1, and drew 1-1 in 1973. A 1925 tour to Montevideo brought two defeats to Uruguay, 3-2 then 1-0, against the reigning Olympic champions who would win again in 1928 as the Celeste Olímpica.

Against Mexico, friendlies were split, 3-2 to Palmeiras in 1952 and 2-0 to Mexico in 1984. Japan are their most frequent opponents, six games in all with five wins and one defeat, starting with a 2-0 victory in 1967 and ending 1-0 in 1989.

In 1969 Palmeiras beat Ghana 3-1, then lost 3-1 to the then Zaire in Kinshasa, having edged the city selection 4-3 two days earlier. They beat Iran-Tehran 3-0 in 1972.

Kirin Cup ties brought a 1-0 win over South Korea in 1978, Pires scoring, and a 4-2 victory against Algeria in Japan in 1986.

Later came a 3-0 defeat to Colombia in 1994, a side featuring Carlos Valderrama and Freddy Rincón preparing for the World Cup, then a 2-0 win over Qatar in 1998 at Palestra Itália through Oséas and Roque Júnior.
