Having played just six games in his return season, doubts have arisen about Paul Pogba’s (33) future at AS Monaco. However, the Principality club’s former assistant manager, Damien Perrinelle, has seemingly quashed those doubts during an interview with RMC Sport.

It was difficult to imagine him hitting the heights of yesteryear; however, with just six appearances, one start, and 115 minutes accumulated, La Pioche fell below expectations. Mid-season, it led to Monaco’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, voicing doubts about the Frenchman’s future if the situation didn’t improve.

Last week, Nice-Matin reported that Pogba’s knee regularly swells, which can also explain why he has suffered frequent muscular injuries this season. Those are linked to compensating for the knee issues.

Despite the issues, Pogba seemed to suggest that he would remain at Monaco next season, in a post on social media. Nice-Matin understands that that message surprised some at the club, with talks over the future yet to take place.

However, as per Perrinelle, there is hope for La Pioche heading into the second year of his two-year contract. “I can tell you that, at the end of the season, it started to become a lot more interesting,” said Perrinelle, who left ASM at the end of the season.

On the former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder, Perrinelle added, “From what I understand [the idea] is for him to continue [at Monaco] for another year.”
