Just two points separates the London rivals as the relegation battle heats up

Tottenham have seen their odds to be relegated from the Premier League slashed following the draw against Leeds.

However, Tel was penalised for catching Ethan Ampadu with a high boot in the area and Dominic Calvert-Lewin subsequently converted from the penalty spot to earn Leeds a point.

The result means Tottenham have missed the chance to pull even further clear of West Ham at the bottom of the table.

The Hammers were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal on Sunday and, at one stage during the Spurs vs Leeds game, were five points adrift with two matches remaining.

That gap is now two, though West Ham’s inferior goal difference means, barring a remarkable set of results, they will be relegated even if they finish level on points with their London rivals.

This is all reflected in the latest odds with the Hammers still favourites among bookmakers, Betfair, to go down along with Burnley and Wolves.

A Betfair spokesperson said: “Despite helping to put their destiny in their own hands in the battle for Premier League survival, Tottenham’s odds to be relegated have been slashed into 5/2, having been 5/1 prior to their 1-1 draw against Leeds on Monday.

“Fellow strugglers West Ham remain the odds-on favourites at 1/4 to join Wolves and Burnley in the second tier, with the Hammers two points adrift of safety heading into the final two games of the season.”

  • West Ham 1/4 (were 1/9)
  • Tottenham 5/2 (were 5/1)

West Ham, meanwhile, travel to Newcastle this weekend before, on the final day of the season, hosting a Leeds side that has been urged by Roberto De Zerbi to perform just how they did at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"We play a good game, not great but there was big pressure. We didn't play calm," the Spurs head coach said.

"We wanted to win immediately. In the end, I think we have to fight until the end of the season. Leeds played a good game.

"We hope they play like this against West Ham because it is right like this.

"We didn't play well but fighting relegation is like this, you cannot play all games calm.

"We have to improve and change the habits, fighting relegation is different to fighting for Champions League."
