Fresh from their Champions League triumph, PSG will resume competitive action on 12 August in the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa in Salzburg.
L'Équipe reports that the fixture falls 10 days before Ligue 1 begins. With the World Cup running from 11 June to 19 July for most of the squad, Marquinhos acknowledged the summer break would be brief.
Players will still take their three weeks of mandatory leave. Those involved in the World Cup final cannot return before 9 August, leaving only three days to prepare for the Super Cup.
The situation mirrors last year, when Luis Enrique’s side had limited preparation before facing Tottenham in Udine, drawing 2-2 then winning 4-3 on penalties.
Non-World Cup players are due back in the second half of July after roughly a month off. Excluding new signings, Illia Zabarnyi, Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia, Senny Mayulu, Lucas Beraldo, Quentin Ndjantou, Lucas Chevalier, Renato Marin, Matveï Safonov and Dro Fernandez are expected.
A friendly has been scheduled for 8 August at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden, against Manchester United.
Ligue 1’s opening weekend is set for 23 August after a calendar shift. Before that, PSG will contest the Trophée des Champions against Lens on the weekend of 15 August, and Luis Enrique has told some players he would adapt as he did this season.
