Maghnes Akliouche was among the most in-demand players as the summer transfer window wrapped up. The French midfielder’s breakout 2024-25 campaign with AS Monaco drew serious interest from PSG and Manchester City.

In May, 90min France revealed that both clubs had stepped up their pursuit, with Monaco setting his value at around €70 million. Pep Guardiola is said to admire Akliouche’s left-footed creativity and versatility, even seeing him as a possible long-term replacement for Bernardo Silva.

More recently, The Independent reported that Tottenham view Akliouche as a more affordable alternative to Savinho. At the same time, Manchester City were said to have put a £70 million valuation on him, while Monaco’s price tag stood at £47.5 million.

Now firmly established as one of Ligue 1’s brightest young stars, Akliouche stayed with Monaco when the window shut. Still, the growing interest suggests a move could be on the cards sooner rather than later.

Despite the rumors during the summer window, AS Monaco are pleased to count on Akliouche for another year, especially with the Champions League returning.

Still, the player has questions. According to LiveFoot (h/t Foot01), he doesn’t really feel wanted by PSG and also believes he would lose a lot of playing time in the capital, risking burning out and potentially losing his place in the French national team ahead of the World Cup.

The January transfer window is still months away. Still, Romain Beddouk of France Bleu believes that the Monaco standout could be available for a relatively cheaper price than what the Ligue 1 side was asking for this past summer.

At PSG, every player has to fight for their minutes, so perhaps this might be off-putting for the player who is looking to establish himself with the French national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup next summer.
