The Champions League served up a memorable evening in the Champions League with 45 goals scored in total.

If you wanted to see the ball hitting the net, then it was a great night for you – except if you were one of the few who watched Kairat vs Pafos FC, which ended goalless.

A total of 45 goals over nine games meant an average of five goals per game with one game having 10 in total!

In descending order, Premier League teams fared well without conceding: Arsenal slotted four past Atlético, Newcastle three against Benfica, and just the two for Man City away to Villarreal.

Three games provided the majority of the action. Barcelona swatted Greek side Olympiacos aside 6-1 in the early kick-off with Fermín Lopez breaking a near 40-year record while Marcus Rashford was on target twice.

Another Manchester United academy product scored a brace too but hardly enjoyed their night.

Scott McTominay scored twice for Napoli but Antonio Conte's side suffered a shock 6-2 defeat away to PSV Eindhoven with Lorenzo Lucca's 76th minute red card not helping matters.

That was the first time a Conte side had ever conceded six goals during his managerial career – the Italian will be hoping it's the only time.

Meanwhile in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen had been unbeaten since sacking Erik ten Hag earlier in the season but they were thrashed by European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Álex Grimaldo missed a penalty while Robert Andrich picked up a red card in the 33rd minute which opened the floodgates for the Ligue 1 side.

It was 1-1 five minutes before half-time which eventually finished 4-1 to the visitors after a flurry that included a brace from Désiré Doué. Nuno Mendes, Ousmane Dembélé, and Vitinha compounded Leverkusen's misery as the game went on.
