Christian Pulisic believes that he is lacking the ‘cocky’ confidence that can make him one of the best players in the world, and it has left Thierry Henry impressed.
There is no doubting that Pulisic has been Milan’s most consistent performer since his arrival from Chelsea in the 2023 summer transfer window. In 88 appearances across all competitions, he has already racked up 50 goal contributions.
Indeed, his 30 goals and 20 assists with the Rossoneri have established him as perhaps the best player in the Milan team and maybe even in Serie A. He has added a knack for scoring big goals to his game too, such as against Liverpool and in two derbies this season.
A renewal is expected to be signed in the coming weeks amid interest from Liverpool, which shows Milan’s faith. In an excerpt from the docuseries on Paramount+ about Pulisic, the American spoke about his current level and what he lacks to get to the top.
“I’m playing at a high level now, with some of the best in the world, but I feel like to get to that level and stay there you have to have a certain level of confidence,” he said.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m missing that. I don’t know, I don’t have that constant, cocky confidence that some of the best have. This is the next step to get to the top.”
In the pre-match show before last night’s match against Panama, a game the USA lost 1-0, Thierry Henry was asked whether or not he was surprised by those statements.
“No, I’m not surprised. It’s good that he’s aware of it. This means he can change. All the greats had a behaviour that made you understand where they were at.
“You have to play with your chest out, I always say that, and let people know. He is now showing on the pitch that he is at that level.”
