Queens Park Rangers have been backed to sign a Manchester United starlet this summer

Queens Park Rangers and boss Julien Stephan are set for a vital summer transfer window following their poor finish to the Championship campaign.

QPR concluded the 2025/26 season with a six-game winless run that included successive defeats against Millwall, Swansea City, Derby County, and Ipswich Town.

The R's showed some promising signs, such as a 6-1 triumph over Portsmouth in March, but they ultimately finished 15th in Stephan's first season as a manager in English football.

Stephan will be keen to bolster his options to enable his side to compete at the right end of the Championship table, and possibly even for the play-offs.

QPR's main issue this season was that they conceded 73 league goals, more than any other Championship side except for rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday.

Meanwhile, ahead of the summer transfer window, Football League World asked our R's fan pundit, Louis Moir, to name one player he'd absolutely love his club to sign and why.

Moir told FLW: "I think a key position we need to look at this summer is left-back. You look at the current left-back situation, and it's not actually great.

"We had Rhys Norrington-Davies, who did alright, was quite solid overall, but if we want him back, we're going to have to probably pay for him.

"You've got Esquerdinha, who probably needs a loan, but is clearly talented. Obviously, you've got Ziyad Larkeche, who spent last season out injured. To be honest, I don't think he's good enough.

"You look at the left-back position now, you think 'We haven't really got anyone who's capable. Arguably, we need two, but definitely one. I think he's a player we've been linked with not so long ago, Harry Amass.

"Obviously, he's been on loan at Sheffield Wednesday (and) Norwich, would have played more for Norwich if it wasn't for his injury. When we came up against Sheffield Wednesday, especially, he looked really good.

"He's still only 19, he's a top player. I think he'll go to the top. He's got an abundance of ability. I think he's a top, top player. Any club, really, in the Championship would probably be looking at him if in need of a left-back.

"On a permanent, I'm not so sure, but on loan, definitely someone we should be clearly looking at, because I think he'd fit in really well. On the ball, he's really good.

"I just think with the way we've played in some games last season, a lot came from down the left. Even Rhys Norrington-Davies, to be fair to him, got forward a lot. If we had someone more capable, like Harry Amass, I just think that would be a significant change and upgrade to defence, and that left-back spot.

"You'd be adding quality, because that's what we need to do in these key areas that we've been lacking. We need to add quality, and Harry Amass, I think, would be a top signing.

"He's a London lad as well, could sway him. I just think he would fit in so well. If we were to get him in, because there were rumours, and strong rumours that we wanted him, that'd be a top signing, I reckon."

The R's need to bolster their defence ahead of next season, and, as Moir alluded to, the left-back spot is a particular area of concern, with Norrington-Davies returning to Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, according to a report from West London Sport in April, QPR are keen on Amass, who has spent time on loan from Manchester United with both Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich this term.

Amass was a shining light in a largely poor Wednesday side before joining the Canaries in the winter transfer window, but injury limited him to just one appearance for the Norfolk side.
