Jonathan Tah said Bayern Munich showed strong character in their intense encounter with Bayer Leverkusen, despite what he described as several difficult moments and questionable decisions during the match.
“Of course we always want to win, but there were many difficult situations and questionable decisions against us today,” Tah said after the game.
The Bayern defender nevertheless praised his team’s reaction to adversity.
“The team reacted well and gave everything on the pitch. We showed a great mentality,” he explained. “We didn’t accept the difficult situation and showed what kind of team we are.”
Tah also suggested the match might have taken a different course had Bayern not been reduced to ten men.
“With the way we played, things would have been different if we had eleven men on the pitch,” he added.
Joshua Kimmich also voiced frustration over the decision that saw Luis Díaz receive his second yellow card for an alleged dive.
“For me you can’t give a yellow card for diving there,” Kimmich said. “There was contact with Blaswich’s foot, and he got up immediately. I’m not saying it should be a penalty, but at least it shouldn’t be a yellow card.”
The controversial moment was one of several talking points in a heated encounter between the Bundesliga heavyweights, with both sides left reflecting on refereeing decisions after the final whistle.
