Rangers have been urged to be careful over any move for Sunderland forward Finn Geragusian, amid links to the 18-year-old.
According to Sunderland Echo, although Sunderland regard him as a first-team prospect, Nottingham Forest and Rangers have been linked with Geragusian, who has 13 goals and three assists in 27 appearances across the Under-21s and Under-18s this season. He was named among the substitutes for the FA Cup fifth round defeat against Port Vale and recently earned a maiden senior call-up.
He won his first cap earlier this week, replacing Grant-Leon Ramos for the final half-hour of a 2-1 friendly defeat against Belarus. Armenia head coach Yegishe Melikyan said the decision was to assess him for the future, support his transition to senior level and address a lack of striker options, while stressing he is not yet ready for the national team.
"My first question is why are Sunderland letting him go? If the reason is because they believe that he can go on to a platform like Rangers and showcase himself, then he would get a move down to the Premier League, I’m pretty sure pretty quickly."
He was speaking on the Inside Track Podcast.
"For Rangers, they’ve got to be careful because taking an 18-year-old into the Glasgow pressure cooker isn’t always easy either, and that may not be the best platform. It can be difficult for some people, so I’d want to do some research into the personality and the character of the player."
