Rangers’ reported pursuit of Sunderland teenager Finn Geragusian has prompted caution, amid concerns over exposing the 18-year-old to Glasgow’s intensity.
“For Rangers, they’ve got to be careful because taking an 18-year-old into the Glasgow pressure cooker isn’t always easy either, and that may not be the best platform,” he told the Inside Track Podcast.
Geragusian has scored 13 goals and supplied three assists in 27 appearances for Sunderland’s Under-21s and Under-18s this season. His form earned a place on the bench for the FA Cup fifth round defeat at Port Vale, followed by a first senior Armenia call-up after youth caps.
He made his debut this week, replacing Grant-Leon Ramos for the final half-hour of Armenia’s 2-1 friendly loss to Belarus. Head coach Yegishe Melikyan said the call-up reflected concern over striking options and was intended to speed up the youngster’s transition to senior level.
There has been speculation of summer interest from Nottingham Forest and Rangers. “My first question is why are Sunderland letting him go?” Wyness said. “I’d want to do some research into the personality and the character of the player.”
