Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Real Betis have entered the race to sign Sunderland striker Eliezer Mayenda as interest mounts this summer.
Mayenda looks increasingly likely to move in search of regular senior football, which currently appears unlikely at the Stadium of Light given Brian Brobbey's exceptional recent performances. Sunderland are understood to respect his wishes and are open to a departure if the terms are right.
Stade Rennais are strongly interested, and Sunderland are aware of attention from FC Porto, the Primeira Liga champions.
Sunderland could secure a major profit, both in cash and SCR terms, on the just under £1 million paid to sign Mayenda from Sochaux in summer 2023. That agreement is understood to include performance clauses and a sell-on.
Betis, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, finished fifth in La Liga last season and will play in the Champions League league phase next season. While a loan move remains possible, Mayenda is thought to prefer a permanent exit at this stage.
