Real Madrid break salary limit to renew key forward’s contract – report | OneFootball

Real Madrid megastar Vinicius Jr. has been far from his best this season and recent months have been very difficult for him.

Despite starting off the campaign well, the player fell off after the Ballon d’Or debacle and never really gained his level back.

In fact, he has been overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe for the better part of the season as Real Madrid’s decisive player in attack.

The Brazilian’s poor form, however, does not imply that his importance in the squad has declined in any way. On the contrary, Real Madrid are actually pushing hard to renew the player and tie him down to the club.

Salary limit breached

Vinicius has not made it easy for Real Madrid to seal a renewal in recent months, for he has continually demanded that he be placed on a pay scale as high as, if not higher, than Mbappe.

The Brazilian asked for a salary of €30 million despite knowing that Real Madrid have an unsaid rule of not exceeding the €15 million mark in terms of wages.

According to a breaking report from SPORT, however, Los Blancos are now set to break that rule.

While Real Madrid will not meet the figure Vinicius demands, the report relays that the player will receive in excess of €20 million as part of his new deal. That way, he will be on par with Mbappe as the team’s highest-paid player.

With the economics seemingly sorted out, Vinicius is expected to sign a new deal with Real Madrid until 2030 – three years more than his previous contract until 2027.

While news of Vinicius’ renewal is indeed great news for the club, it could well create problems for the administration in the future.

After all, they will be breaking the salary rule they have had in place for so many years and i younger prominent players could refer to this case when asking for a raise going forward.
