Real Madrid’s wealth of attacking talent is beginning to present a genuine headache for coach Xabi Alonso.

While Kylian Mbappe’s spot in the starting XI remains fixed, other stars, including Vinicius Jr., are far from guaranteed a place, making selection a tricky balancing act.

The challenge was evident in Real Madrid’s recent clash with Getafe, where Alonso replaced Vinicius with Rodrygo, positioning him in his preferred left wing role.

No impact from the other wing too

Despite high expectations after a strong showing for Brazil during the international break, Rodrygo struggled to make an impact.

He remained largely unnoticed on the left and failed to influence the game decisively.

In the second half, Alonso did not remove Rodrygo from the pitch but shifted him to the right wing, a position he previously excelled in under former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Yet, the Brazilian still failed to shine and was eventually substituted in the closing minutes.

Statistically, Rodrygo managed one shot on target, created three chances, and completed three dribbles, but fans felt he had squandered the opportunity to impress.

Rodrygo’s role under Alonso remains uncertain

Rodrygo’s versatility was highlighted during his international duty, where he thrived as an attacking midfielder for Brazil against South Korea, showcasing a level of impact that Alonso is now considering for Real Madrid.

Speaking ahead of the Getafe matche, Alonso acknowledged the possibility of experimenting with Rodrygo in a new role, but it remains unclear how he will integrate him into the starting XI amid fierce competition.

With Vinicius, Rodrygo, and other forwards all vying for spots, Alonso faces the delicate task of rotating his attack while maintaining balance.

How he manages this surplus of talent will be crucial for Real Madrid as they prepare for key fixtures in La Liga and the Champions League.
