The past year has been a difficult one for Real Madrid, with the team not performing at their usual level and struggling to add to their trophy haul.
Last season saw the Merengues miss out on all major trophies, prompting a managerial change with Xabi Alonso replacing Carlo Ancelotti.
Under the Spaniard, Real Madrid came up short in the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup and lost the Spanish Super Cup earlier this month, leading to his sacking.
Now, things are not looking all too great under new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa either, and it is starting to become apparent that the problem might not be the manager, but the players themselves.
Now, according to an exclusive report from The Touchline, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes that several first-team players are currently falling short of the standards expected at the club.
Indeed, the feeling within the higher-ups at Valdebebas is that many stars, including senior figures, are not performing at the standards expected at a club of Real Madrid’s stature.

Given the situation, there is growing anger and disappointment within the Real Madrid board and if performances do not improve over the coming weeks, Perez & co. will not hesitate to take decisive actions.
These decisive actions could include reduced playing times for the underperforming players as well as potential sales in the summer transfer window.
Vinicius Jr., for one, has been well below the standards expected of him, and his contract situation only adds a layer of uncertainty over his future at the club.
Jude Bellingham, too, has struggled to replicate the form that made him an instant cult hero at the Santiago Bernabeu.
In fact, apart from Kylian Mbappe and Thibaut Courtois, and Alvaro Carreras to an extent, almost the entire Real Madrid squad has failed to perform consistently at the level required.
Perez has already spoken to some players following the managerial change and intends to do so again following the recent debacle against Benfica. But, if things do not improve in the coming weeks, there could be serious consequences.
