Arbeloa x Trent meeting confirmed

Madrid media is frantically backpedalling this weekend - with Diario AS denying that the former Liverpool right-backs discussed any such thing.

The report confirms that Arbeloa spoke with Alexander-Arnold this week but added that it was to throw his weight behind the England international.

“The manager spoke with Trent, but it was to get a firsthand look at his recovery and to offer him his full support,” the report reads.

Alexander-Arnold is enduring a nightmare spell - falling out of the England squad and having no guarantees of a first-team place in Madrid when he returns from injury.

Could Trent Alexander-Arnold return to Liverpool?

Right now he is still recovering from the injury he suffered against Athletic Club in December - expected to keep him out for two months.

It is his second bad injury of the season - following another hamstring blow suffered against Marseille in September.

There have been previous reports that teams in England - including Manchester City and Newcastle - would be interested in bringing him back to the Premier League.

Maybe Madrid’s new communication strategy is to position Alexander-Arnold as an indispensable asset - thereby driving up the price in any transfer negotiations.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool get involved in any transfer race for Trent - but it’s clear as day that Arne Slot’s side are suffering for his absence.
