Real Madrid secured an important 2-0 win over Valencia on Sunday night at Mestalla, riding on goals from Alvaro Carreras and Kylian Mbappe.

The victory ensured that the Merengues stayed within one point of league leaders Barcelona, who had beaten RCD Mallorca on Saturday.

Tchouameni speaks out on victory, preparations with Arbeloa

Leading up to the game, there had been a lot made about Real Madrid’s physical preparation now that Antonio Pintus has been reinstated as the fitness trainer under Alvaro Arbeloa.

The Italian was not part of the first-team coaching staff under Xabi Alonso, and there has been some criticism from within the club about the team’s physical condition during the former manager.

As such, midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni was asked about the differences in physical training and preparation between Alonso and Arbeloa. The French international’s response was interesting to say the least.

“I have my opinion, but I can’t say it,” he said with a laugh.

“As I said, we worked very well with Xabi Alonso and his methodology. Now with Arbeloa and Pintus, we work differently. We hope to continue like this,” Tchouameni added.

Talking about the win over Valencia, Tchouameni highlighted the team’s efforts off the ball, saying:

“I would highlight the team’s work with and without the ball. We have to keep it up. Today was a good day for us, but we need more days like this. We tried to control the ball in front of a low block. We have to be patient, and that’s what we did.”

Concluding, Tchouameni added: “If we are more consistent in our matches, we will win things. We have to look ahead and win our matches. Then we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.”
