In recent days, Real Madrid have been monitoring the situation with Kylian Mbappe, who injured his ankle during the weekend victory over Villarreal. The 26-year-old joined up with the France squad at the start of the week ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and for now, he has remained in Clairefontaine.
Mbappe was monitored upon arrival, and it was decided that the injury was not serious enough to warrant him pulling out for the squad to face Azerbaijan and Iceland. However, that could change if things did not improve, with Real Madrid keeping an eye on the situation every step of the way.
As per Marca, the latest is that Mbappe has still not joined his France teammates for training, with him continuing to do individual work during Tuesday’s session. He is doubtful to face Azerbaijan on Friday, but despite, Real Madrid expect that their player will not return before he it scheduled to after Les Bleus’ two matches.

France head coach Didier Deschamps has been asked about the situation with his captain in recent days, and he was clear that he will be able to count on him during this international break.
“He had a small discomfort, but it’s not that serious. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be here today. Injuries are always reported before the call-ups are announced, and there are even times that afterwards as well. At the moment I have no new information that it has worsened. If there is anything, there will be an update.”
Real Madrid will understandably be concerned about Mbappe, especially if plays for France whilst not being at 100%. In less than three weeks’ time, they have the small matter of El Clasico, which they will need their star striker to be ready for.
