According to a report from Defensa Central, Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Granada’s promising defender Oscar Naasei Oppong.

The 20-year-old centre-back has caught the attention of the Spanish giants after a breakout season that saw him gain valuable minutes between Granada’s B team and the senior squad in the Segunda Division.

Real Madrid’s primary interest lies in bringing Naasei to their Castilla side. However, the club’s vision extends beyond just the reserve team, as they see him as a potential long-term replacement for Antonio Rudiger.

The German centre-back is currently under contract until 2026, but his name is not expected to appear in the club’s future blueprint.

His recent meniscus surgery, performed at the end of April, has raised concerns over his physical condition and long-term reliability, especially as performances have dipped in recent months.

Naasei’s profile aligns with Madrid’s goals

Oscar Naasei is viewed as a player with great potential who could thrive under Alvaro Arbeloa’s guidance at Castilla. Despite not having fully adapted to the demands of the second tier just yet, his progress has been steady.

A move to Valdebebas, even if it starts with the reserve team, is seen as a strategic step rather than a setback.

Naasei extended his contract with Granada in 2024, committing to the club until 2028. His release clause is reportedly around €10 million, a figure that could be negotiable depending on Granada’s willingness to do business.

Madrid considering move before others act

Real Madrid are weighing the possibility of moving early to secure Naasei’s services before other clubs take an interest.

Given the club’s focus on securing top young talent for both Castilla and future first-team needs, Naasei fits the mould of a smart long-term investment.

Discussions could soon open with Granada, as Madrid would prefer a negotiated deal over simply triggering the release clause.

While no offer has been officially made yet, there is a growing belief within Valdebebas that Oscar Naasei could be a key piece of Real Madrid’s defensive line in the years to come.
