Anger erupted in the stands at the Santiago Bernabéu during the clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City, as several Madrid supporters voiced their frustration with whistles, following the team's latest setback, a 2-1 defeat to the Sky Blues.
The match took place last night, Wednesday, at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, as part of matchday six in the 2025-2026 UEFA Champions League group stage.
In his post-match press conference, Xabi Alonso, the Merengue manager, addressed the whistles that accompanied his team's performance:
"There were a few whistles, but also a lot of applause. I don't blame anyone, the fans express what they feel."
Reflecting on his players' performance, he added:
"I have nothing to reproach my players for. We started very well, but sometimes, the slightest mistake costs you dearly. In ten minutes, they managed to take the lead and we couldn't handle that moment. Despite that, we regained control until the end, but we lacked the finishing touch."
Asked about his future at the helm of Real Madrid, the 44-year-old coach replied:
"That's not the issue. What matters to me is Real Madrid's next match. That's what's important right now."
With this defeat, Real Madrid remain seventh in the standings with 12 points, while Manchester City climb to fourth place with 13 points.
