Real Madrid will face Atletico Madrid in the eagerly awaited Madrid derby at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
While Real Madrid currently lead La Liga with an unblemished record of six victories from six games, Atletico Madrid finds themselves in a challenging position, sitting 12th with just one win in their first five matches.
Xabi Alonso is confronting defensive challenges ahead of this high-profile clash. Trent Alexander-Arnold is sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Champions League encounter against Marseille, leaving the squad low on natural options for the right-back position.
Antonio Rudiger is also expected to miss action for roughly three months following a muscle injury incurred during the international break in September. Additionally, Ferland Mendy is out with a lingering thigh injury that prematurely ended his 2024/25 season after the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.
Encouragingly for Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham has returned to full training and is likely to be available for the derby. Although he may not start immediately as he continues his recovery from shoulder surgery, his gradual involvement through late substitute appearances in recent matches against Espanyol and Levante signals a cautious but positive reintegration. Eduardo Camavinga has similarly rejoined the squad after overcoming recent fitness concerns and has also featured in these games as a substitute.
Alonso has demonstrated tactical adaptability and effective squad rotation this season, giving opportunities to emerging talents like Franco Mastantuono, who has impressed since his debut.
The coach remains focused on progress, sharing: “We’re very much in a growth phase and still building. There’s a long road ahead, but we’re laying down a strong foundation to compete at the highest levels in La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa.”
Real Madrid Predicted XI: Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Carreras; Tchouameni, Valverde; Mastantuono, Guller, Vinicius; Mbappe.
27th September, Saturday at 3:15pm.
