Real Sociedad injury list grows with Aihen and Rupérez setbacks | OneFootball

Real Sociedad have suffered a double defensive blow, with Iñaki Rupérez’s recovery hit by a post-surgery complication and Aihen Muñoz ruled out of the trip to Mallorca. Álvaro Odriozola is also set for surgery next week.

According to AS, Rupérez damaged the external meniscus of his left knee in pre-season at Bournemouth and, after conservative treatment failed, underwent surgery in Barcelona in late November. His rehabilitation is now slower than expected due to a post-operative infection contracted in the operating theatre, so the Zubieta medical staff are taking extra precautions.

Muñoz has discomfort in the tendon of his right gluteus medius and is out of the next league fixture against RCD Mallorca in Palma. The club are hopeful of a quick improvement.

His absence weakens the left side of the defence in a demanding run with league and cup matches close together.

After rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Oviedo, Odriozola will undergo surgery on Tuesday at the Clínica Olympia Quirónsalud in Madrid. The procedure will be performed by Dr Manuel Leyes and will keep the defender out for the coming months.
