Real Sociedad endured a chastening night at the Bernabéu, with errors and penalties defining their defeat. Remiro was beaten by Vinicius from the spot and by a Valverde screamer, and he could not keep out the penalty for 4-1.
According to AS, Aramburu conceded two penalties, the second debatable, and suffered against Vinicius. He left a trailing leg for one foul and lunged again 45 seconds into the second half, where little contact seemed evident and the incident was barely replayed.
Jon Martín grew into it, headed straight at Courtois on 60 minutes and cleared off the line after Zubeldia slipped on 69. Zubeldia had a poor night, though he also went close on 62 minutes.
Aihen lacked help from Wesley for the 1-0, struggled before the break, then steadied and created two chances. Gorrotxategi was erratic as Madrid repeatedly cut through midfield.
Herrera, short of minutes after injury, did reasonably, won a penalty and went off on 58 minutes. Turrientes supplied a superb cross, improved Real Sociedad’s possession and was booked. Soler impressed early but faded.
Marín was tireless between the lines and departed on 73 minutes. Wesley, starting on the left for the first time, looked off the pace and was replaced at half-time.
Oyarzabal lacked spark, headed wide after six minutes but converted Herrera’s penalty, then left on 58 minutes. From the bench, Guedes made an instant impact. Óskarsson saw little service, finished one chance that was ruled offside and set up Aihen with a back-heel.
