Real Sociedad will be without Ander Barrenetxea for Sunday 17 May against Valencia in San Sebastián, after the winger received his fifth yellow card of the season against Girona. He also went off injured in the first half.

According to Superdeporte, he came into matchday 36 one booking from a ban.

It is a setback for Matarazzo’s side as they continue to chase European qualification, and a lift for Carlos Corberán’s Valencia.

Barrenetxea is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career, establishing himself as a leading attacking reference for La Real. His pace, ability to break lines and one-on-one threat have made him pivotal.

He was central to a major moment this term, scoring in the shootout as Real Sociedad won the Copa del Rey against Atlético Madrid. That level has put him on Spain’s radar for the World Cup this summer, where he could feature.
