Diogo Costa looks like somebody who would instantly elevate the entire team.

His leadership is perhaps the most appealing aspect. Chelsea have assembled an exciting young squad, but leadership remains a work in progress across several positions.

A goalkeeper who already captains Porto and regularly performs for Portugal brings something valuable.

There is also an element of frustration attached to this report.

Chelsea have spent enormous sums assembling this squad, yet supporters still feel there are obvious gaps that should have been addressed earlier.
