Chelsea striker Deivid Washington is set to join up with Chelsea’s development side when he returns from the U20 World Cup according to reports.
The Blues signed Washington from Santos for £17.2m in the summer of 2023, but the Brazilian is somewhat of a forgotten man at Stamford Bridge.
The striker was sent on loan to Santos, but didn’t have a particularly successful loan spell and managed just one goal in 20 appearances, with Chelsea opting to recall Washington last month.
Washington has only made three appearances for Chelsea, totalling just 25 minutes since he joined two years ago.
The 20-year-old has fared better in the U21 side where he’s scored 14 goals in 22 appearances, but it’s clear his future doesn’t lie at Chelsea.
Washington has played just 25 minutes of football for Chelsea.
Washington was linked with Sunderland in the summer, before they opted to sign Marc Guiu on loan instead, with that loan move cut short due to Liam Delap’s injury.
Quite what Chelsea’s plan is for Washington remains unclear, but Mail Sport have reported the youngster is set to join up with the development side once he returns from the U20 World Cup with Brazil.
The Washington signing simply hasn’t worked out, and to have a £17m signing playing development football doesn’t really make sense, and it’s unlikely the Blues will make a profit on what they paid when they presumably look to sell the youngster in January or next summer.
Whilst Washington’s move to Stamford Bridge hasn’t been a success, Brazilian stars are thriving at Stamford Bridge this season.
