As Liverpool continue to refine their attacking structure under Arne Slot, sources suggest that Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy has emerged as a potential option for the club’s recruitment team. The 29-year-old has maintained his prolific scoring record in the Bundesliga, and while Liverpool invested heavily in Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike last summer, internal discussions are ongoing about maintaining depth and competition across all forward positions.
Guirassy’s reputation has grown significantly since his move from Stuttgart to Dortmund in 2024 for a reported €18 million. Across 65 appearances, he has produced an impressive return of 45 goals, establishing himself as one of the most reliable finishers in European football. Despite this, there is growing speculation that his time at Signal Iduna Park could be nearing its conclusion, with several Premier League clubs monitoring developments closely ahead of 2026.
TEAMtalk has reported that Manchester United are expected to be one of the teams offered the opportunity to sign Guirassy, though intermediaries are also understood to be testing the waters with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City. Although Guirassy remains under contract until 2028, sources claim his deal includes a release clause accessible to specific clubs, potentially opening the door to an English switch next summer.

Liverpool’s attack has undergone considerable change since the arrivals of Isak and Ekitike, with both strikers adapting to different tactical demands under Slot. Isak, having joined from Newcastle without a full pre-season, has required time to adjust, while Ekitike’s early promise has plateaued slightly in recent months. With the demands of domestic and European competition, Liverpool’s hierarchy are keen to ensure sufficient depth to cover form, injury, and suspension.
Guirassy’s proven goalscoring instincts and experience could appeal to Slot, especially given Liverpool’s ambitions to remain competitive on multiple fronts. However, the club’s recruitment model under sporting director Richard Hughes is focused on long-term planning and financial discipline, which may influence any decision to pursue a player approaching his 30s.
Guirassy’s performances have not gone unnoticed on the international stage. The French-born striker finished 21st in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, a reflection of his remarkable consistency across league and European competitions. He was joint-top scorer in last season’s Champions League, netting 13 times alongside Barcelona’s Raphinha, and began the current Bundesliga campaign with four goals in his first three appearances.
While his form has dipped slightly—just one goal in his last six matches—the forward’s overall impact remains substantial. Given Liverpool’s extensive scouting network and interest in attacking versatility, it would not be surprising if Guirassy remained on their radar as a potential future option. Still, with Isak and Ekitike expected to feature prominently in Slot’s long-term plans, any move for Guirassy would likely depend on market dynamics and player availability.
For now, Liverpool’s stance appears cautious. The club are known to assess all viable opportunities but are unlikely to make impulsive moves unless a strategic fit is identified. As one recruitment source put it, “The club’s focus is on evolution, not overhaul. Every signing must align with the wider footballing philosophy.”
In that context, Guirassy represents both a proven short-term solution and a potential conundrum—an elite finisher whose age profile may not align perfectly with Liverpool’s broader project. Yet as past windows have shown, opportunities in football can shift rapidly, and the coming months will determine whether Liverpool see Guirassy as a calculated risk worth taking or an option to observe from afar.
