Manchester City’s first-team squad has been at the centre of fresh transfer reports this week, this time linking their £100 million forward with a potential exit.
Jack Grealish has endured a troublesome start to the ongoing season as he looks to battle for a place on the left of Manchester City’s front-three with competition from Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes.
The Portugal international has emerged at the forefront of Pep Guardiola’s left-sided wide plans in recent weeks, having taken on the challenge of the role amid injury and fitness struggles endured by both Grealish and Doku.
And having provided goals and assists aplenty during his outings for Manchester City across the last run of matches, there is a feeling within some quarters that the former Wolves man may have established himself as Pep Guardiola’s go-to choice out wide for certain matches.
That has left Grealish in particular in a difficult position as the former Aston Villa captain weighs up whether he is up to the task of fighting back for his role in Pep Guardiola’s line-up, despite the close relationship shared between the players.
But his challenges within the Manchester City set-up regardless of his own intentions will unsurprisingly attract interested eyes from other clubs monitoring his situation, and whether there may be opportunity to lure Jack Grealish away for a fresh challenge.
According to the information of Football Transfers’ Steve Kay, Premier League rivals Tottenham have now been in touch with the representatives of Manchester City’s Grealish over a possible transfer.
It is claimed that the North London club’s sporting director Johan Lange is speaking with the player’s team to discuss his current situation at the Etihad Stadium, and the potential for a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
With a history at Aston Villa, the report points out that Lange was ‘instrumental’ in the deal that took Grealish to City in 2021, and the player is said to be ‘especially appreciative’ of how Lange handled that move, maintaining a good relationship since.
In a staggering claim to close off the latest developments, the report states that Grealish had spoken with Tottenham over a move during the summer, but ultimately wanted to fight for his spot at Manchester City, with a £3 million gap in wages between Daniel Levy and the player.
Jack Grealish has spoken extensively about his close relationship with Pep Guardiola since arriving at the club in the summer market of 2021, and it is widely understood that there has been no change to their relationship at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking during the build-up to the ongoing season, Jack Grealish said of Guardiola, “He’s been so good for me in the three years I’ve been at City. He always gives me good advice. Pep’s a master in this game, so to take advice from him is something I always listen too.”
In turn, Guardiola himself was hugely complimentary of the way Jack Grealish performed in the lead-up to the campaign and the way in which he was preparing himself for a new season, with the Catalan coach stating during the summer, “What I have seen so far, I love it!”
Jack Grealish is set to return to Manchester City action after the ongoing international break, and it remains unknown as to how much he will be able to contribute to Lee Carsley’s England camp in the coming fortnight having only recently returned to training following injury.
