Roma wingback Nicola Zalewski is Inter Milan’s top target to replace Tajon Buchanan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that the 23-year-old would tick all of the Nerazzurri’s boxes.

Inter will have to replace wingback Tajon Buchanan before the end of the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old Canadian international is headed to Villarreal. He has decided to leave on loan to find more consistent playing time.

The Spanish club will sign Buchanan for a loan fee of €1 million, for the second half of this season. Moreover, they will have a purchase option worth €13 million, reports the Gazzetta.

And in the meantime, Inter will look to fill the void in their squad created by Buchanan’s departure.

Inter President Beppe Marotta did not exactly hide the fact that Inter are keen on Roma wingback Zalewski.

The Nerazzurri President outlined the kind of profile that the club want.

Inter are looking to sign a young player. That is the dictate of club owners Oaktree, who do not want to target short-term deals for veterans.

Meanwhile, Marotta also emphasized that the Nerazzurri are looking for a player who has not featured regularly for their current club so far this season. That describes Zalewski at Roma.

And the Inter President furthermore stressed the need for a player who could slot right in.

Giallorossi academy graduate Nicola Zalewski would certainly have that capacity.

For these reasons, reports the Gazzetta, Inter have set their sights on Zalewski. He is the right player in the right time to bolster the squad depth with Buchanan heading for the exit door.
