Roma aren’t so sure Manchester United will greenlight the departure of Joshua Zirkzee and are kicking the tires on more options to bolster the frontline, like Giacomo Raspadori and Yuri Alberto.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gian Piero Gasperini is a long-time admirer of the Italian striker. He left Napoli to join Atletico Madrid to play more consistently, but it hasn’t happened. He has appeared in 11 out of 20 matches, starting only 3 times. Los Colchoneros paid €22M plus €4M add-ons last summer.
Roma will inquire about whether Raspadori could depart on loan with an option to buy, while they are helped by Corinthians’ precarious financial situation in their pursuit of Yuri Alberto, Corriere dello Sport informs.
The center-forward has an Italian passport; otherwise, the deal wouldn’t be possible since the Giallorossi filled their quota of extra-EU signings with Wesley and Leon Bailey. He has tallied 75 goals and 20 assists in 202 matches with his current club and has one cap with Brazil. A few European sides are after him. His price tag is around €20/25M.
January isn’t the right window to make experiments, especially expensive ones. They might again have to operate on a shoestring, waiting for the opportunity that better combines the technical and economic elements. They could use someone who likes playing on the left-hand side of the pitch, given their current attackers.
Atletico Madrid players are routinely linked to Serie A moves, but they never seem to materialize. Surely, the Azzurri star was a little too optimistic to think he’d be a fixture in such a high caliber team.
