Romain Saiss received a warm ovation as he returned to Molineux before Wolves’ final Premier League home match.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, relegation was confirmed last month, with Fulham the visitors for the last top-flight fixture at home after eight seasons. They still have a trip to Burnley to come.
Supporters had shared photos of Saiss near Wolves’ Compton training base over the weekend. Minutes before kick-off against Fulham, he was led out and paraded around the pitch to widespread applause.
He visited all four sides of the ground and was warmly received. The purpose of his visit was unclear, whether simply to acknowledge fans who long sang his name.
Signed in 2016, Saiss was a key figure under Nuno as Wolves won the Championship, then made more than 100 Premier League appearances before leaving in 2022 to join Besiktas. He has since played in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Saiss departed after reportedly turning down a new deal he was unhappy with, and former chairman Jeff Shi refused to move on the terms. His exit was announced a week after the season ended.
