Romano: ‘There will be movements’ for ‘committed’ Man Utd star at end of season, it’s a sorry end to his tenure

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Joshua Zirkzee is expected to depart Manchester United in the summer, just two years after he signed for the club.

Indeed, the forward is preparing to pull the curtains on his Red Devils tenure prematurely following a season in which he, up to now, has played a heavily reduced role at Old Trafford.

While his lack of minutes can be put down to United having no European action to account for and exiting both cup competitions at the earliest stages, Zirkzee will likely be aware that he hasn’t done enough to warrant a more prominent role next season, when the side are expecting to have some form of European football on the calendar.

How Zirkzee is faring this campaign

By the time Ruben Amorim was relieved of his duties in early January, the 24-year-old had made just four Premier League starts in 20 matches.

Now, since Michael Carrick took the reins following Darren Fletcher’s brief caretaker spell, Zirkzee has featured for a total of only 11 minutes in the three games he was available for, having missed the wins over Arsenal and Manchester City with a knock and been an unused substitute against Fulham.

The Dutch international, who hasn’t represented his nation since November 2024, has returned two goals and an assist thus far, though it hasn’t stopped sides from registering their interest over a potential summer move.

Galatasaray are said to have established their desire to hash out a deal for Zirkzee, as well as unnamed Serie A clubs; he spent two seasons in Italy with Bologna prior to his £36.5 million United switch.

Weighing in on the attacker’s situation on YouTube, Romano said: “I think for Joshua Zirkzee, there will be movements in the summer, with several clubs showing interest in the player, who is being super professional.

“He’s showing his commitment to Man United until the very end of the season, even if he’s not playing much.

“Then, at the end of the season, it will probably be time to try play more, find more game time.”
