Ruben Amorim says his new signings are “ready to play” ahead of tomorrow evening’s FA Cup 4th Round tie with Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Amorim was answering questions from the media today at the pre-match press conference and said “we’ll see, you guys have to wait until tomorrow but they are ready to play and are two more solutions in this moment.”

Speaking about the injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw, he clarified that:

“Licha is a difficult situation, he’s going to be out for a while, we don’t know the extent of the injury, but it’s an injury that’s going to take time.

“Luke has one small issue in the different area from the last injury, so we try to be careful with Luke.”

Amorim was then asked about not signing a striker in the January window.

“What I feel is that the club is taking its time, we know the urgency of the moment of the team, everybody here don’t want to make the same mistakes of the past, in the summer we will see,” he replied.

“But like I said, we are being really careful with transfers because we did some mistakes in the past.”

Asked whether he felt United’s league position could get worse, he replied:

“No, I think is a moment that is hard to turn things around in just a few games, it’s going to be like that, really hard until the end of the season.”

On playing Kobbie Mainoo as a false nine against Crystal Palace, he replied:

“We are taking that risk you talk about, we want a different thing in the team, profiles, in that area, it was my decision to do that.

“We are taking some risks, but is the way we want to proceed, we want to win some games, we have time to train because I’m always complaining, improve the players, I want certain type of players with a different profile and we are changing right away.”

Speaking of the pressure on himself, Amorim smiled.

“That is clear, it is also exciting, I know when I choose this profession that you have the risk of results and I knew when I came here I look at the schedule, I look at the team, my decision changing everything in the middle of the season without new signings is a danger for a coach.

“But I have a clear idea of what I want to do and I take these risks because in the end it’s going to pay off. But I’m not naive, I said that many times, this is a sport of results and we are in a difficult situation.”

On Marcus Rashford’s future following his loan move to Aston Villa, the boss said:

“Guys, in the summer [we can talk about it]. Like we said before, we are fighting for our jobs until the summer. I am just focused on these games. Marcus is in Birmingham now with Unai, so you can the questions to another coach. We are just focused on our players.”

The last question concerned the lack of goals in the team and where he expects United’s goals will come from.

“We have to find players to play in different positions, you can see the way we play it’s going to take time and not solve all the problems, we have many shots inside the box and catch one player,” he said.

“Amad can score more, Bruno can score more, even Kobbie Mainoo can score more playing in that position on the pitch. So, we have to improve as a team, we have a little bit of time, let’s see in the end of the season.”
