Rui Costa said Jhon Durán arrives at Benfica with a clear head and stressed the club would not have signed him if they felt otherwise.

According to Glorioso 1904, the Benfica president answered questions at Estádio da Luz on Tuesday after an event, addressing scrutiny around the new signing.

His personality and off-field behaviour have been debated, with Gabriel Agbonlahor heavily critical, suggesting previous coaches wanted to offload him.

The Colombian striker, 22, joins on loan from Al Nassr until the end of the 2026/27 season and will wear shirt 22.

The deal carries a total cost of 6.1 million euros, covering the loan fee, gross salary, sports insurance, social security, the solidarity mechanism and intermediary costs.

Benfica also hold a fixed 30 million euros option to buy at the end of the campaign.
