Leicester City are lining up former Barnsley boss Conor Hourihane to join Russell Martin’s staff, Daily Mail claims.
LeicesterMercury.co.uk understands there is no change in Andy King’s role after he joined the first-team staff under Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2024. King, 37, made more than 350 appearances for the club and won the top three English league titles.
Martin was appointed Foxes manager on Monday evening after weeks of talks, signing a three-year deal to replace Gary Rowett. The former Southampton and Rangers boss takes charge at the King Power Stadium.
Earlier this month, Daily Record claimed Martin would seek to reunite with long-time assistant Matt Gill and sports science chief Rhys Owen from Ibrox. Gill is currently James Morrison’s number two at West Brom, and it is unclear whether he will leave the Championship club.
Hourihane joined Barnsley as a coach after retiring, then stepped up to head coach before leaving Oakwell at the end of last season. The Tykes finished 15th in League One, 16 points off the play-offs and 10 clear of the relegation zone.
He left Swansea City before Martin arrived at the Liberty Stadium in 2021. As a player, Hourihane made over 550 appearances and was part of the Aston Villa squad promoted to the Premier League in 2019.
