Santos have confirmed goalkeeper João Pedro has extended his contract until April 2031 as the club develops a sporting plan for him. The academy graduate expressed delight at committing to his boyhood club and spoke of learning with the senior group.
The plan is for him to train with the seniors while keeping minutes in the youth side. If Brazão is sold, he would be second-choice behind Diógenes and ahead of Rodrigo Falcão, who is over-age for the youth team this year.
His previous deal ran to April 2027 and the club moved quickly to extend it. He turned 18 in March and was not registered for the Copinha to prioritise the first team, though he has kept rhythm with the Under-20s.
Next week he is due to join Brazil Under-20 for friendlies against Chile, continuing a run of recent call-ups. Last season he stood out with penalty saves at the Under-17 World Cup and won the South American title.
The two-metre goalkeeper is yet to make his senior debut, but has been registered and on the bench in 2024 Série B and this year in the Paulistão, Copa do Brasil and Brasileirão.
Born in March 2008 in Santos, he rose through the academy after starting in futsal with Gremetal. He has collected youth honours, winning the Paulista Under-17 in 2024 and the Paulista Under-20 in 2025.
